Birth Control/Missed BC pill on potential ovulation day

Question
Hello Norman,

I am concerned that I might be pregnant and I'd like to find out if this is all in my head or if I really could be.  My last period was December 30th, and I have a 28 day cycle – so according to websites, my ovulation day would be the  14th… which turns out to be the one day that I missed  (my boyfriend and I rarely use condoms and he ejaculates inside me most every time, including the 12th - 15th ).  So before I started researching this, I was complaining to my friends that coffee didn’t taste good anymore – so I stopped drinking it, I’ve been going to the bathroom like crazy – but not sure if that’s just because I switched to hearbal tea instead of coffee and I’ve been having some dizzy spells and eat just about every hour, when before I was eating every 3 – 4 hours.  One of them suggested I may be pregnant and now that I’ve researched it a little more, I am starting to think that I could be.  What is the likelihood of getting pregnant from missing one pill on your ovulation day?

Thank you!

Answer
Hello Kaley,
Most women don't ovulate when taking the pill.  There's some chance of ovulating if you miss a pill, but the chance is much greater during the first week of your pill pack, since you were already off the pill for 7 days.  It takes a while for the changes that produce ovulation to occur.  So I think pregnancy is very unlikely.  If your period doesn't come when expected, then do a pregnancy test.  Best regards.
