Question
Hi, I am a 24 year old female, I am taking yasmin OCP now for over a year and have never had any problems with it. Last month i took two pill packs together (skipping the 7 pill free days) but i still got a period about two days later than it was due, it is not a proper period, just like dark brown, sometimes red it isnt heavy, just have to wear a panty liner, but this is goin on now just over two weeks, i take the last pill of the pack tomorrow and then have 7 pill free days so will probably get a proper period during the week, I am jus concerned as this has never happened before even when i took two packs together, should i be going to the doctor? I have taken pregnancy tests and they are negative. any advice you could give me i would really appreciate it.
thanks
Niamh

Answer
When trying to avoid periods with the pill, there is an increased chance of breakthrough bleeding, which is what you're having.  It's usually nothing to be concerned about.  If it's enough bleeding or goes on for more than a few days, it's usually better to stop the active pills for 4-7 days, let the period come, and then start back on the pills.  Usually the bleeding will stop once you're back on the pill again.
