Birth Control/yaz

Question
my daughter has a prescription for yaz to help with irregular periods and cramping. She is 17 - not sexually active.  She has not yet started pills- she has not had her period for 2 months- if she starts taking now - will this stop period from coming on in the next week ( she is going away -bathing suit weather ) and does not want to get period while gone.
thanks

Answer
If she starts the Yaz now, it may or may not keep her period from coming in the next week.  Since she hasn't had a period for 2 months, a period may just want to come, and the Yaz may only slow it down a little.  The Yaz won't bring a period on in the next week, so it's fine to start, but if her period comes during the first 3 weeks on the Yaz, she may be better off stopping the Yaz for a week and letting the period come.
