Birth Control/Breakthrough bleeding while on pill

Question
Hi, I have been on the pill for 11 years, coming off it for 3 months last year for a break. Since i went back on it i have had bloody discharge every few days for 2 months. Dont know whether i should change my pill or continue, its very annoying and im getting cramps too.

Answer
Assuming you weren't having problems before stopping the pill, I suspect that your uterine lining got built up too much during your 3 month break, and the bleeding is due to that.  If that's the case, then it's likely that with each period the bloody discharge will get less.  If you're still having the bloody discharge after another month or two on the pill, I would check with your doctor to be sure there is no other reason.
