Question
Hi there
I have been on Triphasil for about 2.5 years and recently a nurse at my local pharmacy urged me to try Melodene due to side effects i was having from the Triphasil.
It seemed to be just fine, the first month my period came as normal but last week i started my second period on melodene and it was very light. I barely noticed it was there, it was more like spotting. I also had no cramps and PMS which is what i usually go through. I also had sex a few days after my first period on melodene. Is this my body adjusting to the melodene or is there a chance of me being pregnant? Please could you advise?
Thanks so much!

Answer
I'm not a medical doctor but in my opinion, you could be experiencing both. Your body probably is adjusting to the different pill. I don't recommend any kind of birth control method that is hormonal because of side effects and risks. And if you had sex and the new pill wasn't really in effect yet, you could be pregnant. Actually, even if you take the pill or any kind of birth control method, it is not 100% effective in preventing pregnancy.

I would advise you to see if you develop any pregnancy symptoms and also see if your period starts on your next cycle. If you want to get a free pregnancy test, you can look for a pregnancy center at http://www.optionline.org or call 1-800-395-HELP. I'm in the process of looking for an international listing so if you need that, contact me at CHERYL51@aol.com and we can talk more.

Sincerely,
