Birth Control/Sex during week off

Question
I am on 28 day birth control so I still have my period monthly. I take my pill every day and haven't missed a day yet. I've been on the birth control for 3 months now and so far I haven't had any problems with it. My question is, is it safe to have unprotected sex during my week off of the birth control? My period only last 2 to 3 days during my week off and the rest of the week that I'm off my birth control and my boyfriend and I were wondering if we could still have unprotected sex during that week.

Thanks for you help
-Kat

Answer
Dear Katrina,

It's possible to get pregnant anytime during your cycle, even when taking birth control pills. No method is 100% safe in preventing pregnancy. So you could get pregnant anytime. So I wouldn't recommend that. I don't even advise to take birth control pills because of the hormones and side effects. I recommend non-hormonal birth control methods. You can email me at CHERYL51@aol.com and we can discuss these subjects. Hope to hear from you soon.
