Birth Control/Pregnant?

Question
Hi Norman,
I went off my birth control pills June 19. I started my period June 23. I had sex on the 28th and the condom broke. I took the morning after pill on June 30. On July 7, I had my period again. Since then my husband and I have decided to try to have a baby. We have had sex on the 12, 15, and 18. I took a pregnancy test last night and it was negative.
My question is- when am I suppose to get my period and when can I take another pregnancy test?

Thank you!

Answer
Hi Vanessa,
Often it takes 3-4 weeks to ovulate after stopping the pill, and it's usually hard to predict.  For that reason, it's usually better to wait until you get a period 4-6 weeks after stopping the pill before trying to get pregnant.  The July 7 period you had was probably a result of the morning after pill.  I wouldn't do another pregnancy test unless you start feeling pregnant.  Otherwise wait for your period to start, then start trying about 2 weeks later.  Best wishes.
