Birth Control/IUD pain

Question
I got an IUD 2 years ago and ever since I have been experiencing shooting pains in my vagina. Is that normal?

Answer
I don't think it's normal.  It may be that you have a sensitive uterus, and the IUD is pressing on a nerve, so it may not mean anything serious, but it's unusual to have shooting vaginal pain with an IUD.  Since the pain seems to be from the IUD, I would recommend having the IUD removed, at least if the pain is enough to be bothersome.
