Birth Control/ovarian cyst?

Question
hi.
i think i have an ovarian cyst. have't been to a dr. yet.
it feels like ovulation pain (not unbearable but enough to feel it) on my right ride. i'm due for my period in a few days, so i know i'm not ovulating.
if it is a cyst, does it go away on it's own, or do i need medicine/surgery?
thanks.

Answer
Ovarian cysts are very common, and most go away on their own.  They usually don't cause pain unless they rupture or leak fluid.  A minority of ovarian cysts are from ovarian tumors, and they require surgery.  Ovarian cancer doesn't usually cause pain, although it's possible.  Ovarian cancer is usually found in women over 40-50 years old.  If the pain doesn't go away after your next period, better get it checked out.
