Question
Dear  Dr. Norman,

I have my period on the 6th of November and had unprotected sex on the 14th. Althought my husband did not cum inside and their was withdrawal, after that i took a Plan B Step One pill.

It has been almost 3 weeks now and i want to know if there is a chance for being pregnant. I had bleeding on the 28th of November, I thought it was my period, it was light.
I used early pregnancy test and did a blood test and yet the result was negative. I dont know if I should expect my period or expect a pregnancy. I just need to ask what are my chances, and how much more time would it take for me to make sure its not too early for a test.
What do you think I should do?

Answer
Hello Sara,
A pregnancy test will usually be positive by 2 weeks after conception, and will always be positive by 3 weeks after, so I don't think you could be pregnant.  Plan B can throw off the next period, causing it to be early or late, so that's probably the reason you haven't had your period as expected.  I would just wait for you period to come, and be sure to use some good birth control in the meantime.  Plan B is good for emergencies, but as you can see, it can mess up your cycle.
