Birth Control/Mirena IUD

Question
In the summer I plan on getting my IUD removed. This is my second Mirena and I love, love, love it, what I do not love, however, is the severe pain I am in upon insertion. I am wanting to get a my third, but the thought of going through all that pain, though short lived, gives me anxiety. A friend of mine recently got one inserted and was told about a vaginally inserted pill that dissolves upon insertion and opens up the cervix, making insertion less painless. I was never told of such both times I had mine inserted.  Also would it be ok if I requested Valium or somesuch before insertion? Are all IUD's this painful to have inserted?

Answer
Here is an article I found online.

This article states that you can take a painkiller before insertion. I don't usually recommend any kind of hormonal birth control method. So I found this article as well.
