Question
I was recently diagnosed with ovarian cysts, and I was wondering if I should have my mirena removed? I just had the mirena put in this past January, but according to the ER doctor I've had these cysts for some time. I prefer this method of birth control however, I don't want to risk infertility or further health issues.

Answer
Amanda,

I don't recommend the mirena at all, so yes, I would recommend that you have it removed. However, I'm not a doctor so I just wanted you to know that. I have read about side effects from the mirena and other hormonal birth control methods as well. What will you use if you do have the mirena removed? Let me know if I can help you in any way of choosing a birth control method.
