Question
I just started a new birth control after being on yaz for a few months. im now on alesse and i got my period only a week into taking the pills. should i keep taking the pills and have two periods in a month? im just not sure what to do

Answer
Bleeding while on the pill is called breakthrough bleeding.  It's not unusual when first starting on the pill, and may happen when switching from one pill to another.  It usually takes care of itself, often by the time you start another pack.  Another cause of bleeding on the pill is an STD, so if that's possible, I would see your doctor to get tested.  You're still protected by the pill, even with the bleeding.  If it gets as heavy as a period, I would see your doctor.
