Birth Control/IUD: cramping after sex
Expert: Diane Cheryl - 5/21/2011
QuestionHello Diane, My question is: I'm on my second Mirena IUD and I'm wondering if I should be concerned if I get cramps for a few minutes immediately after sex involving deep penetration? Here are more details: It doesn't happened every time after sex, just after deep penetration, and doesn't feel bad during sex, except when my cervix is "poked." The cramping will occur about a minute after the sex is done, last up to several minutes, and then be gone and I'll be fine. If bleeding occurs, it's very minimal. I asked my gyno and she brushed it off like it was nothing but I would like a second opinion. Last night, the bad cramping upset my full stomach from dinner and I threw up. And again, the cramping subsided within minutes and I was fine. I'm just wondering what's going on inside. A few more details: I've never had children, both IUDs stopped my periods completely, and I never suffered from menstrual cramps before the IUDs. My boyfriend for much of the first IUD wasn't well endowed at all so I didn't have this problem like I do now, with a new boyfriend.
Any information to help me better understand this would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you so much for your time,
Cheryl
AnswerCheryl,
Are you wondering if the IUD is causing problems? I really don't recommend for a woman to have sex until she is married. I know that sounds old-fashioned but if more people waited, there would be a lot less problems with unwanted pregnancy and sexually transmitted diseases.
I'm sorry that your doctor brushed off your question. I wished doctors would more concerned about answering patient's questions and taking time with us.
I was just looking up on the internet for a search "iud causing cramping" and "sex causing cramps" but my internet connection is blocking anything. Please email me at CHERYL51@aol.com and put ALLEXPERTS in the subject line. Then if I find out anything, I will let you know.
