Birth Control/IUD

Question
I have had Mirena in for 4.5 years. I have to have it taken out next March. I was wondering if I could have this done when I go for my annual well woman visit, or if I need to make a separate appointment to have my IUD removed. Also, can I have a new one put in at the same appointment, or do I need to wait before I get a new one?

Answer
Hi Tracey,

Thanks for your question! I'm not sure if each individual doctor is different about the process in removing an IUD. Have you had any problems with the IUD? The reason I'm asking is because I just got a question about side effects from an IUD. I was doing some research about this and found a lot of complaints from women who are having problems and wanting to get the IUD removed and find another birth control method.

So ask your doctor about this and then they can tell you and you will be prepared. Also, you might want to consider another method if you are having any health problems that you think may be linked to the IUD. You can email me at CHERYL51@aol.com if you want to talk more.

Sincerely,
Diane Cheryl
