Birth Control/birth control and the liver

Question
Hi, I was diagnosed with ovarian cysts, uterine fibroids and premenstrual dysphoric disorder.  Every month for about 10 days I am in pain ( pelvic and back).  My doctor recommended birth control pills but I am afraid because of the side effects. Especially, when it states do not take the pills if I have a liver disease.  In 2007 I was diagnosed with hepatitis c, but after much monitoring, my doctor says that my liver is healthy and that I have a small trace of the virus.  My question is, would my liver be at risk if I were to take the pills?  Would there be a chance that the hepatitis c would come back with a vengeance?

Thank you.

Answer
Dear Lynnsie,

This sounds like a very hard decision to make. On the one hand, I don't agree with taking birth control pills, as you. I do agree that there are a lot of possible side effects. The only thing I can say is talk to your doctor again. Or maybe get a 2nd opinion from another doctor.

There must be an alternative so I will hope you find that. Can you email me at CHERYL51@aol.com so we can talk more. Put ALLEXPERTS in the subject line of your email.

Let me know what happens.

Sincerely,
Diane Cheryl
