Birth Control/could i be pregnant?

Question
hi- will try to make this short- i had been taking birth control pills for 3 weeks- from August 7th-August 27th, and started my "sugar pills" on August 28th, which is when i got my period.  I had intercourse with my husband on Sept.2nd- i was worried about getting pregnant so i got Plan b one step and took it Sept 3rd, about 18 hours after the fact. I have not resumed with my birth control pills- i took a pregnancy test this afternoon and it was negative- but I was wondering what are the chances i could still be pregnant? I was told that the plan b was "overkill" since my pills should have taken effect.  I did start the pill pack on the 1st day of my period which also happened to be a Sunday. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Answer
Hi Kim,

I can't diagnose your situation over the internet but I can say, in my opinion, that there would be a very small chance if you were pregnant. If you were on birth control pills plus did Plan B, this would be a very small chance. However, there is always a chance of pregnancy in spite of birth control methods. I would urge you to read the article about Plan B or morning after pill on http://www.optionline.org

I would agree with whoever told you that Plan B probably wasn't necessary. It also put extra hormones in your body and I can't predict how that will affect your cycle.

If you develop any pregnancy symptoms or miss your next period, then you could see about taking a test. You can get a free pregnancy test at a local pregnancy center. To find one go to http://www.optionline.org
