Birth Control/Irregular periods

Question
I'm on the birth control Loestrin 24 and my periods are off. I just ended my second month on this. The first month when i was supposed to have my period it started the last day of the four day alotted time. During the next month while i was taking the normal birth control i had light bleeding more than half of the month. I'm now on my last day of the alotted time for my period and haven't had one. I'm not worried about being pregnant because i haven't been sexually active recently. Is it normal to have irregular periods the first few months on birth control?

Answer
Hi Kristen,

Thanks for your question. Yes, it's common for these kinds of side effects when you start taking the hormonal birth control pills. The hormones can affect your natural cycle and I usually don't recommend hormonal birth control methods. If you are not sexually active, why not consider going off the birth control pill right now. Your body would really be healthier, in my opinion. My private email address is CHERYL51@aol.com if you want to talk more.
