Birth Control/Missed birth control pill

My last period started the last week in Jan. and ended on Feb. 2nd. I was suppose to start taking my pill again on Feb. 3rd but, I had forgotten to pick up my new prescription and now I have to wait until Monday to get them. Tonight (feb 9th) I got my period again. I am wondering if I should start taking my birth control when I get them on Monday or if I should wait a specific amount of days before I start?

Anytime that you are off the active pills for more than 7 days, you can start a new pack of pills at any time, but they will not be effective until you have been back on the pill for 7 days.  I would recommend starting the pill on Monday when you get the new pack, then use backup for the first 7 days.
