Birth Control/Already one month without period

Question
Dear Dr. Solberg,

my girlfriend had her last period on the days around April 7, took Levonorgestrel on about April 18, and has not had a period since (now June 6). Is this cause for alarm? Can anything be done?

Thank you very much for your help, with best greetings.

Answer
Dear Daniel,

It's not unusual that emergency contraception will cause a period to be late, but generally not a month late.
First I would do a pregnancy test.
As long as it's negative, there is no cause for alarm.  Women miss periods sometimes, due to stress or other things.
If she goes 3 months without a period, it's best for her to see a doctor to figure it out.
