Question
My girlfriend recently got on the pill to help regulate her period.  Since her mother was in the room when the doctor asked if she was sexually active she said no, and the doctor said that she didn't need a pelvic exam.  Without a pelvic exam is the birth control prescribed sufficient for keeping her from getting pregnant?

Answer
Hi Shawn,

I think that she should get an exam but I can't advise you  how to do that without her mother knowing. The birth control pill is not 100% safe from pregnancy. Even if you take it exactly correctly there are still risks involved. Also, the pill doesn't prevent Sexually Transmitted diseases. How old is your girlfriend? I would recommend abstinence at this point of your lives. In my opinion, it's too risky for pregnancy or STD's. Just my opinion.
