Question
Hi there! I was on Ortho-Tri-cyclen-Lo for 3 months... in the forth month i was still getting my period during the second week of active pills. I had my period at the time, and my doctor said to continue taking Ortho until the 1st Sunday after my period started... then that day switch to the new type (triquilar-higher hormone levels)that he gave me.... it was the first Sunday of my period (day 7 of bleeding) and I have been taking the "new" stuff for 3 going on 4 days... and I am still bleeding!! Any idea how much longer this should last... could I go in a get yet a higher dose of hormones? Or does it just take a couple of days for the new to take effect.. my periods usually last 5 or 6 days... this 10 is driving me crazy!

Answer

Hi Stacey,
I'm not a medical professional so please check with your physician. This is not good what is happening but unfortunately, I've been getting a lot of questions and comments about this. I don't recommend birth control pills or any hormonal method. I think the side effects and risks are just too dangerous and unhealthy. I would not want to get even a higher dosage of hormones! Can you switch to another method such as condoms, Natural Family Planning or abstinence? Do you even need to be on birth control? Please email me back at DCHERYL51@yahoo.com
Thanks.
