Birth Control/Birth control shot and its effects on pregnancy

Question
I am not a female but my girlfriend is currently on the birth control shot and she has been on it for a while. She would like to be able to get pregnant and have a child someday, but she feels that the shot has messed with her so much internally that she will be unable to have children and it scares her. Is there anything that can be done? Will she be able to have a child still?

Answer
The first thing to do is not to take the next shot. Then she needs to get instruction in fertility awareness to understand how her body is responding to the lack of artificial hormones and returning to normal. It can take a bit of time for normal cycling to return after the shot. You should begin to think about this and talk about it now.

Pregnancy is never guaranteed, even for women who have never been on the pill or shot. Pregnancy depends on two people, the man and the woman. Sometimes not getting pregnant is the fault of the man due to male infertility.
