Question
I have taken the birth control Ortho Tri Cyclen as well as Yasmin at different times for the past three years. I just recently stopped taking them about six months ago because I heard that they can cause weight gain. Sure enough after a month or so after I stopped taking the pill I dropped ten pounds. However I still am having intercourse frequently and dont want to become pregnant. I was wondering if there is any pill or shot I can take that doesn't have the weight gain side effect. I love the convieniance of birth control but was unhappy with my weight can you help?

Answer
If you know that the pill causes you to gain weight, then you can exercise more or eat better to combat this effect. Everyone is affected differently by the pill, so I can't really say what kind of pill will work for you. You can also try other methods of birth control - IUDs, the shot. talk to your doctor and let them know your concerns.
