Birth Control - Lost pill

Question
Hi there,

Recently I dropped and lost one of my pills during the second week of my cycle.  Since my back up pack is back up at school, I skipped that day and continued with the pack the following day.  I started getting some cramping today (the 4th day after the skipped day) and early in the day I had some spotting and now a somewhat heavy flow.  My question is, do I take my placebo pills starting Sunday or do I just start my new pack of pills?  Is this considered my period or is it just some spotting?  I appreciate any advice/knowledge you have for me.  Thank you for your time!

Sam

Answer
Hi Sam,

It could just be spotting, since you missed that one pill. It is hard to know if it is your period until it lasts a few days.

If it continues to bleed over the next few days, consider it an early period, start a new pack on Sunday, and use a back up method that entire month JUST to be sure your body wasn't confused by the change. If the bleeding only lasted one day, it was likley spotting, and continue with your pack as normal.

Hope that helps!

Drea Jean
