Birth Control/Merina IUD

Question
I had my second baby in May.  Both of my babies were born via c-section.  I would like to get the Merina IUD, but was wondering if this is contraindicated in someone who has not had a vaginal birth??  Also, would you please describe the way these IUD's work??  I want to be sure that it does not cause a spontaneous abortion, for my own ethical beliefs.  Thank you so much for your expertise, in advance.

Hi Allison,

Thanks for your question. I'm not a medical professional so I urge you to check with your doctor about this. I did a search on http://www.goodsearch.com
I searched for dangers of Merina IUD. I found several stories from women who had used this. I did not see anything about vaginal birth. I did see that this method is hormonal and does have side effects. I also did read this: "Mirena is supposed to cause you not to ovulate, but also thickens the wall of your uterus I beleive to prevent implantation if you do happen to ovulate. (?)" This would be an answer to your question about causing a spontaneous abortion. This is the same way the pill works. It can cause the uterine walls to thicken and when the egg tries to implant in the wall, it could not do so and this would prevent a pregnancy. Your body (or any woman's body) would reject the fetus and the fetus would not be able to attach to the lining of the uterus. I'm not sure if I explained this correctly so if you have any questions, just email me at DCHERYL51@yahoo.com

Sincerely,
Diane Cheryl
