Question
I was prescribed today Microgynon 30, after taking a break from oral contraceptives. In the patient information leaflet it states that I should take the pill on the first day of my next period.

I want to know if this will stop the bleeding for that period, once I've taken the pill, and if not, can i take my first sooner, as I would rather not have my period to go on holiday.

Thanks.

Answer
Hi Julie,

It may stop it a day or two sooner, but that doesn't happen for many women.

If you take the first pill sooner, than you will run the risk of messing up your cycles, and increase your pregnancy risk. It may also not stop your period from coming, and if it doesn't, your pill pack and cycle will not match, and pregnancy risk will increase. Consider it carefully before you do it.

Good Luck and Thanks,

Drea Jean
