Birth Control/Mirena IUD Birth control

Question
I was looking in to finding a new birth control.  I came across the Mirena Iud.  I was interested in using this method, but am still not comfortable about making a decision just yet.  I already have one child and maybe in the future would like another one.  I would like to know more about the side affect of the Mirena IUD and the discomfort level of getting it inserted.  I also would like to know if it helps with PMS symptoms.  Thank you.

Answer
Hello.. I emailed you back on Nov. 30th and wondered if you received the following email.
Let me know.
Hi Annie,
I'm not a medical professional so I suggest that you check with your physician. I've done a little research and I personally don't recommend the IUD. Also, the Mirena releases a hormone called levonorgestrel continuously while the device is in place. During the first three to six months, you may have irregular and frequent bleeding as your body adjusts to the IUD. You could eventually not even have periods. I don't believe this is healthy for your body. Signs of infection after IUD insertion include pelvic pain, fever, heavy bleeding or new vaginal discharge.
Other side effects are lower abdominal cramps, breast tenderness, acne, and mood changes.
I haven't seen anything about PMS symptoms so can't tell you about that. As I said, consult with your doctor and email me at DCHERYL51@yahoo.com to let me know what you decide.
Thanks.
