Birth Control/Ovulation Question
Expert: Brigid Kowalczyk - 7/12/2006
Questionyes, that is what I mean. Although I will be bleeding from the birth control pills, are you saying that I will not be ovulating. How do I start ovulating again? Do I just do nothing? Do I take the bc pills to start bleeding? How do I get the depo out of my system considering my donor cycle starts next month? I need to be ovulating for the donor cycle, that's what I am getting at. Thanks.

Question -
I am on the depo and have had 2 shots. I am also an egg donor and got a call that I had someone interested in me donating but I do not ovulate anymore. I am due for a shot in August and I got a prescription for birth control pills which usually restarts your period by the 21st day. Will this work for me if I have the depo in my system? Has anyone experienced this? Please help with any information

You can't be an egg donor and take contraceptive hormones. The pill isn't going to start a real period, just the fake one that you have when on the pill. Your real period with ovulation will only occur when you are off all contraceptive hormones and allow your body to heal from all the chemicals.
Answer -
When you take the pill, you are not supposed to be ovulating (although it sometimes happens which is why you can still get pregnant on the pill). The period you have is not therefore a real period. It is called "withdrawal bleeding" because of the changing hormones that force the bleeding. That is the whole point of taking the pill, to keep you from ovulating so you don't get pregnant. Which is why you can't be on the pill or the shot and still be available as an egg donor.
AnswerThe only way you can start ovulating again is to quit taking all the artificial hormones and wait. Sometimes it takes up to a year after being on the depo shot to start ovulating and having periods again. Taking the pill will not start ovulation. Only time will.
