Birth Control - Period after getting off the pill

Expert: Drea Jean H. - 5/23/2006

Question
Hello,

I got off the pill last month. I had been on it for about a year and a half. I was supposed to get my period last Wednesday and now it is almost one week late. Before I was on the pill and during the time that I was on the pill, my periods were all very regular. Is it normal for my body to take some time adjusting after getting off the pill? I am just concerned cause I have almost never been this late before. Thanks for your help.

Answer
Hi Jessica,

Yes, it is perfectly normal to miss periods for a little while, or have very short ones, or just spotting within your first few month off the pill. It can take up to 6 months for your body to regulate itself. It is very normal, although often irritating, but it is common, so don't worry.

Good Luck and Thanks,

Drea Jean
