Birth Control/Pregnancy after IUD

Question
I had a IUD removed today and was hoping to have a baby next summer sometime. How soon can we start trying? What is the suggested time to wait, or rather is there a time period that would be higher risk? This will be my 3rd child AND the IUD was in place for almost 3 years.

Answer
Hi Rachel,

Thanks for your question. I'm not a medical doctor so I urge you to check with your personal physician. I just looked at some articles that I found. Some women didn't have any problem getting pregnant. It took from 3 to 6 months to get pregnant after having the IUD.

Another article I read said that the IUD works by causing inflammation in the lining of your uterus, and it may take a few months for your lining to return to normal.

I don't see anything so far about a risk. If you would like me keep researching, just email me at DCHERYL51@yahoo.com

Sincerely,
Diane Cheryl
