Question Help! I just googled a bc pill that my ob prescribed Aviane (as he also prescribed Celexa for moood swings, irritablity and depression that I had during my third pregnancy that has not eased up much since birth 10 weeks ago). My reason to take is solely emotional and assumed hormonal imbalance...not to prevent a pregnancy..will it work for this, and what about the lovely anti-depressant...I hate pills of any kind, I take synthroid only but need help with this emotional problem I'm having because it is disrupting my life and my family. I'd love your imput. thank you.
Answer I'm sorry about your emotional imbalance but I don't see how taking the bc pill is going to help. It will be adding new hormones to the ones your body is already making, that sounds like more imbalance to me. Instead of looking for a cause doctors like to layer on drugs to combat a condition they don't understand.
I'm not a doctor but I always try to approach problems from a natural direction. Statistics have shown that at least 60 percent to 80 percent of new moms experience some form of mild depression and in some cases it leads to more moderate to severe cases such as postpartum and in 10 percent of women, post psychosis.
There are ways to conquer depression in the earliest of stages before it develops into a serious issue. I have found one of the most effective ways of preventing and treating depression is by taking fish oil. Fish oil contains the basic omega-3 fats that are essential in defeating depression.
Instead of going the route of taking drugs, you could try something like this. The suggested dose is 1 fish oil capsule for every 15 lbs of body weight or 1 tablespoon of liquid oil for every 50 lbs of body weight. If you are uncertain about stopping the drugs, you can add the fish oil and see what happens. I recommend the approach of Dr. Mercola who is on the internet: http://www.mercola.com/2004/apr/3/birth_recovery.htm
I wish you well. You can find fish oil in lots of stores: Whole Foods, Costco, and other places. Always eat right, get enough sleep, exercise and enjoy your baby!
