Question I’m 17 years old. This is my whole story. First i didn't get my period for 2 months and then when I got my periods, it wouldn't stop. I've had them for a month now and still have them. I got my period in June and now it's July 14th. My family doctor gave me birth control pills. But I am dead scared of taking birth control pills since I’ve read the side effects and they seem serious and dangerous. I really don't want to take the birth control pills. But my period is not stopping. Can you help me? Maybe suggest some other way I can stop my bleeding. My iron level is low as well and I’m worried. If I don't treat my problem or don't take the pills, am I at risk? Is it damaging my body? Your help will be greatly appreciated. THANK YOU.
Answer Have you talked with your parents about this? They should be able to help you. You are under the care of a doctor and a doctor is not going to do anything to hurt you. The pill is used to control periods in cases such as you describe. I think the first step is to work with your doctor and follow his or her instructions. If your doctor is a he, maybe you could make arrangements to see a female and you would feel more comfortable.
