Question QUESTION: I had a baby 6 months ago and was on the mini-pill while nursing. I started ortho tri cyclen lo and am now in my placebo week, I finally had a little bit of bleeding on the 4th day and a very small amount on the 5th day. We used a back up method for the first 7 days and then used condoms and pulled out. I don't understand why such a light period? I did have a small clogged milk duck the week before I should have gotten my period, could this result in the small amount of bleeding?
ANSWER: Did you have any bleeding or signs of cycle returning prior to this or is this the first time you had some kind of bleeding post partum? How much are you nursing, on demand, or just a little bit?
---------- FOLLOW-UP ----------
QUESTION: I have not had any bleeding post partum at all. The only thing I had on the last month of the mini pill was some cramping as if my period was going to come. I was actually just pumping 4-5 times per day in the last month of the mini pill. Once I started the combination pill I was only able to nurse a couple of times at the beginning of the month.
Answer From what you say it sounds like you did not start regular cycling after you had your baby and got on the pill. The pill may be trying to start your cycles and maybe your body doesn't want to cycle yet. It is difficult to say. The pill should keep you from getting pregnant. It looks like you stopped nursing and pumping so your milk should dry up. You will probably be OK.
