Birth Control/How can I tell?

Question
Hi, My name is Leslie. I have been receiving the DEPO shot since last October. To date I have only received 3 shots. I am currently due for another. I have been a "lucky" one, meaning that I have not experienced a single period since I started. Now, I have noticed a little wait gain, particularly in the abdominal area, and some bloating. Also, I have had tenderness in my breasts. I know these can be early signs of pregnancy, but if I don't experience periods then how could I really know if they're "signs." I read on the internet that over the counter pregnancy tests may not test accurately because of the particular hormones used in the shot. I have taken 2 HPT's and both said negative. Do you think I have enough reason to make an appointment and get bloodwork done? Because I'd hate to go ahead and get my next shot if I am pregnant. I could really use someone elses opinion! Thanks

Answer
Hi Leslie,
Thanks for your question. I'm not a medical doctor so these are just my opinions. I don't recommend the depo provera shot. It's a hormonal birth control method and I think that is unhealthy. I do agree with you that you should find out if you're pregnant. Please go to http://www.optionline.org and find a pregnancy testing center in your area. Or let me know where you live and I can find a center for you. Just email me at DCHERYL51@yahoo.com
Please let me know what happens.

Sincerely,
Diane Cheryl
