BlackBerry and BES - BlackBerry After Contract?

Question
Hello, Steve!

I am nearing the end of my Sprint contract for my BlackBerry 8830. Is there any way I can continue to use the BlackBerry if I decide to change providers? I haven't yet chosen a new provider, as being able to continue with this device will weigh heavily into that decision.

Thanks!

Answer
Hi Tiff -

If you were to find someone who could unlock and flash your 8830 to Verizon, you could potentially use this device with Verizon service. However, with the cost of doing this, you might just be better off getting a new Curve from Verizon when you started up new service. It will be less expensive and will give you a brand new device with a 12 month contract if you do this. This is a CDMA device for the US, so it won't work with AT&T or T-Mobile regardless. Is there a particular carrier you were interested in moving to if you were to leave Sprint? If I were you, I would base my carrier decision not on the BlackBerry, but on what carrier you think would be the best for you and then you could get a BlackBerry from them. If you go with a larger carrier, Verizon, T-Mobile or AT&T, they all have, sell and support BlackBerrys. Let me know. Thanks. DebiN
