Blindness/Visual Impairment - swollen optical nerves

Expert: Dr.Manu C.Rajnani - 7/30/2009

Question
My brother has been told that his optical nerves are swollen. This diagnosis was made a year ago. Since the initial diagnosis they have removed a piece of metal from his lower eyelid, run three MRI'S & several cat scans. There are no signs of tumors. Because he has very early signs of lymphoma they have treating him with a plasma transfusion and now steroids and 4 sessions of mild chemotherapy but still it has not improved his eyesight in fact it is getting worse. He now has virtually only tunnel vision and concern is rising that some of the nerve endings may be dying off. What type of treatment should we as his family be insisting on. All we seem to get is these experimental treatments that do nothing and no results. He is self employed and has a young family.
