Blue Chip Stocks/US economy

Question
Hi,
I'm from Singapore. I will like to enquire the state of US economy. Will it remain sluggish till 2002? How are the current indicators of the economy?
Any chances that US will go into a prolonged recession?
I'm thinking of Vanguard S&P 500 Index fund or Vanguard Global Stock Index. What are your opinions? My investment term is 3-5 years and I can tolerate medium risk.

Thank you. I will rate you favourably.

Let's understand something right off the bat: opinions vary.  While I'm very good at what I do, I might be wrong.  That said, here's my opinion: the US economy is already coming out of its "pause" and the recession is over.  The tax cut has seen to that, as well as the easing by the Fed.  Forget the Global Stock fund; invest in the S&P 500 Index fund.
