What is the meaning of the song "Diamond In Your Mind" as recorded by Tom Waits as well as Solomon Burke?  What exactly are the words throughout the song referring to?

Hi Ted, Like a great sculpture or painting this song can be interpreted many ways. My personal feeling is that it is advice that a person should always keep a special thought or a creative thought on hand in one's thinking. Or perhaps the capability of having a cheerful creative thought. Some people that hear Waits think he is always dreary. I suggest he is a deep careful thinker and philosopher.
