Blues/Attracting attention with your music

Question
Hello George:

Thanks for the great advice in past questions. Here's something that may or may not be in you're realm. Any references, links, etc. are most appreciated.

As an American Blues singer/songwriter/guitar player/ performer, independent artist, who lives abroad, any tips or suggestions on how to promote, or at least, create a buzz, for my CD?
I've put it on CD Baby and their various online distribution partners. My space, and some of the online websites. Advertizing agencies cost a fortune and without a local tour to support the ads it is not so useful a strategy.

And any suggestions on how to get the attention of a booking agent in the US, or otherwise abroad, aside from Sonicbids?
Also, what is your opinion on the various "song pitch" agencies such as Taxi, Kathode Ray, Gorilla, True Talent Management, Musicsubmit, and many others which claim to send the songs to record company A&R reps, TV & movie contacts for use as backing tracks, trailers, or as part of the sound tracks, commercial spots, video game soundtracks, etc. etc?
Some charge a small fee for their services, others are not so small. Not sure about the compensations but I suppose that a legalalities must be scrutinized if a deal were to ever emerge...

Any suggestions on finding "Blues friendly" areas of the USA or Canada? And, as I live abroad, any suggestions on sourcing which countries may be "Blues friendly" and possibly be easy to find work in the music business?
Also: Any suggestions on finding quality musicians?

These are some strange, and perhaps silly questions. Any answers are most appreciated. Thanks.

Answer
Hi Joe,

That's quite a set of questions you've asked. I can suggest Gigmasters. However, you'd need an established band, with the equipment ready, transportation, and an established set that you perform, with at least a few demos.

Are you in a band now? How much experience do you have playing with groups? Blues guitarist positions are available for established bands, but you'd need to be ready to practice in the bands location. It helps if you sing or if you are a front man.

How good is your CD, or your playing? Send me the Url at which I can listen and I'll try to advise.

Blues is very popular in Windsor and Toronto. And, there are many small clubs to play at in those towns. Else, in the US, the type of Blues you play matters big time.

Chicago, Rockford, Peoria, St. Louis, Milwaukee, Memphis,
Nashville, Austin, Amarillo, Tulsa, OK City, etc. all have
their own styles that are popular.

Finding quality musicians? You either must advertise and start your own group, or find one that you get along with. Once again, there are openings.

I hope this helps.

Regards,
George
