Question
My mate - Freddie - is desperately trying to recapture his youth and remembers a song, which he thinks is a Blur song, released around '92-'93. He thinks it's called Twenty Century Boy/Girl?
Not much to go on I know but he wants to know: i) if it was a blur single ii) what is it's proper title & iii) how can e get hold of it?
Your help with this will put both me, him and our others mates out of of our misery!

Answer
Hi Michelle,

Thanks for the question, it's always a pleasure to smuggly put rest to agonising pub debate.

First of all, the song IS a Blur track, and is called 'For Tommorow'. It was the first single from the second album, 'Modern Life Is Rubbish'. The first line went "He's a twentieth century boy...".

Incase it brings back better memories, the whole lyric was as follows;

He's a 20th century boy, with his hands on the rails,
he's trying not to be sick again, and holding on for tommorow,
London ice cracks on a seamless line,
he's hanging on for dear life,
so we hold each other tightly, and hold on for tommorow,

singing, la la lalala etc....
holding on for tommorow oh oh oh

She's a 20th century girl, with her hands on the wheel,
trying not to make him sick again, seeing what she can borrow,
London's so nice back in your seamless rhymes,
but we're lost on the Westway,
so we hold each other tightly,
and hold on for tommorow.

This, like most Blur singles, will cost 4 or 5 times the price of the album it's on to buy seperatly, so it's best to go for the LP, Modern Life Is Rubbish, which is available in ALL record stores in the UK, and online at www.eil.com, or any other online record stores you know about. It's the one with an old 50's sketch of a Mallard, the train, on the front. For the record, the single has a painting of an old WW2 bomber in the clouds.

Hope this helps,
Andrew.
