Question
I know this is not your real area of expertise but maybe you direct me to someone who is.  I have an 12y.o. son who has come up with a game I think maybe marketable.  But I don't know where to go and ask about it.  How and what to do about getting it off the ground.  Could you be of any assistance.  Thanks John

Answer
John,

Hello!  First of all: Trade Mark the idea (TM) and copyright the materials.  If you really have a hot game, others will think so too!  There are different ways to go about this, but start with using the net to collect info. on how to get started:  use "Google.com" and type in keywords like "game design," "game publishing," etc.  Depending on the target market, you may have companies you know of already, like "Toys R Us," or "Hasbro" waiting in the wings for fresh ideas.  Heck, shoot the idea across my bow with another email?  I've been in the gaming industry to know that if the idea is great, YOU can launch your own "grass roots" game company with minimal cash (pay publishers, pay graphic designers, pay for die-cutters, pay for boxes, etc.)  In any event: BEST of luck!  Remember: do your research BEFORE you let the cat out of the bag!

I can answer questions based on wargaming. The history of the hobby, the giants (SPI, Avalon Hill, GDW, TSR, etc) and the little guys (Flying Buffalo, OSG, Vanguard, Mayfair, etc). I also know current worth of games based on condition, collectable value.
