Board Games/Need some help remembering the name of a game...

Question
I need some help finding an old game. I'm looking for a board game I played during the late 80s or so. It was played using hexagonal pieces that were about 2 inches in diameter, were black (or some other dark color), and had roads/paths/etc on them. The characters in the game were all animal cyborgs, and the point was to have battles between characters. I can only assume at this point that the roads were for getting your character near another one.

You could buy (or win, or something) weapons and shields, so you could potentially have a robot penguin with a laser gun vs. a robot gorilla with a nuclear missile. I don't remember very many of the characters besides the penguin, the gorilla, and a turtle.

Like I said, it's been many years, and I never actually owned the game. I played it over at a buddy's house, but I've since lost contact with him. To make the story even more complicated, his dad was in the Air Force, stationed in Germany, and was always sending him German toys and books. It's possible this was a German game, although I'm sure the instructions were in English. Heck, the German thing might just be a red herring.

I'm at a total loss. I've done hours of google searches, but to no luck. Any little hint you might be able to give would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Hello Zach!

Well, from your description I am betting it's Gammarauders, and here is a link to look at it and some info about it:

Unfortunately, I have never played it but a fellow friend had helped me out with this.   Hope it's the right game, if not, hit me up again and we'll figure it out!

Enjoy & Happy New Year!
