About Chris
Expertise
I can primarily answer questions about sports simulation games (Strat-O-Matic, APBA, Replay, as well as out-of-print games), and can also answer questions on Euro-family and/or wargames (by manufacturers such as Avalon Hill, GMT, Rio Grande, Mayfair, etc.). I ONLY deal in strict boardgames - not `physical` games, and rarely, will I have an answer on a CCG or RPG. As far as boardgames go, if I don`t know the answer, I have enough contacts through various conventions and forums to find the answer quickly!

Board Games - rights to old 3M Bookshelf games

Expert: Chris - 1/26/2004

Question
I have been searching for who owns the rights to the old 3M bookshelf games (specifically acquire, executive decision, oh wah ree, quinto, stocks and bonds, phlounder, foil, bazaar, jumpin, twixt and Mr. President).  I have only been able to garner a small amount of information so far. I think Hasboro/Avalon Hill owns some of them, but I don't know which ones or how many of them they own.  Since they really haven't printed any of them in so long, it's really hard to tell what they've got. Any info you have would be greatly appreciated!

Answer
Hi Jennifer,
As far as I know - ALL 3M games reverted to Hasbro when Hasbro purchaed Avalon Hill.
  Specifically:

Acquire was re-released by both Avalon Hill and THEN Hasbro - in fact, you can still find Acquire in certain stores now (mainly the Hasbro version).

Stocks and Bonds was re-released by Avalon Hill as "Stock Market Guru"

Twixt, I believe, was ALSO re-released by Avalon Hill - same name.

The rest, yes, were never re-released...but AH had the rights, and, Hasbro assumed all the rights when purchasing AH (except for a few titles which were licensed to MultiMan, GMT and L2 - principally wargames, though).
