Boat Repair/115 hp johnson

Question
I have a 1978 115 hp Johnson v4.  One weekend it worked great.  One week later, the motor will rev up and the front of the boat will come up, but does not get enough speed to bring down the front of the boat.  If you keep the gas wide open, the motor will slowly (4-5 minutes) pick up more rpm, and the front will slowly come down.  Motor does not miss, and sounds good. Still will not pick up as much speed as it normally did.

Answer
I suspect you have an ignition problem. I would also check the fuel system and for carbon on the pistons. Running on three cylinders instead of 4 would be my first guess. Have your shop check it out.
Next time don't keep running the boat if there is an apparent problem. You could blow the engine leaving you with a big bill!
