Question
My outboard is having problems with ignition I have replaced all coils plugs and powerpack but it still wont rev past 2500 rpm and dies if I try to increase rpm. each time I have replaced a part it runs fine for about 5 minutes but the problem returns compressions are all at 120 could it be stator and if so what is the approx. cost of replacement parts

Answer
You could be having a problem in the fuel system or carbs as well.
The stator is under the flywheel and supplies the charging and the electricity to run the ignition.
Try this to diagnose the problem.
Run the motor with a timing light attached. Let the motor warm up. Then with the boat in the water, not on the hose, try to get on plane. Watch the timing light and see if you drop a cylinder. Do this on all three. It will tell you whether the problem is in the ignition or induction systems.
Once you find out please post back and we can go from there.
