Question
Dear Jeff,
Lots of corrosion Stiff steering, I decided to replace the cable. It was really stuck so I sawed it off and pounded back and forth with pb blaster.Loosened it up,but I now can not get it to pull through and out. Seems like it gets to a point and stops hard. I've done this before and don't remember it being difficult. Do I need to get the whole tube the cable goes though out and replace it?

Answer
The only way to get the output end out now is to pound it out. If you are in a salt water area I would forget it and replace the tilt tube with a stainless steel model. Make sure you get the proper one. Once replaced and properly lubed you will probably not have this problem again.
If you decide not to replace the tilt tube once you have punched the old cable end out, ream or hone the inside of the tilt tube until absolutely clean and then install the new cable with plenty of grease.
