Boat Repair/adding a starter to an outboard

Question
I would like to add a starter to a 1993 johnson outboard short shaft (it did not come from the factory with one) , is it possible, and if so, what parts would I need?

Answer
Paul you didn't include your model so I can only give you an overview. Please go to your local dealer where he can see if the kits are still available.
You will need a starter switch, wiring harness, starter solenoid, starter and possibly a flywheel. In addition if you need battery charging capability, a stator, rectifier and wiring.
You may be much better off finding a good used motor with electric starting instead of trying to add the components on.
