Question
i just received a pelican bayou canoe. i am looking for
an outboard motor for it. but I'm not sure if i need a
15" or a 20" shaft??? also I'm looking at getting a 4hp.
do you recommend one make over another??  yamaha, suzuki, mercury etc..  oh i measured the transom to the bottom of boat. if I'm measuring right it's about 18 to 19"

Answer
A 20 inch motor may be right for you. You will want the anti-ventilation plate from just above to just below the bottom of the boat. I usually don't give out my likes and dislikes but the Mercury/Tohatsu or Yamaha are good motor. Both have plenty of dealers to find parts and service as well. Once you decide which brand take the boat to the dealer and let them double check the engine height.
