Question
I have a pre Alpha 1 outdrive. When I rise it it move up very slowly. Then once I have it up, it won't stay up and comes back down.

Answer
You have an internal leak. Most probably in the valve body of the trim unit inside the boat. Your Mercruiser dealer has the gauges and experience to diagnose the problem.
About the only thing you can do is to see if you have any external leaks. Look at the trim rams, and the hose connections under the drive unit on both sides of the transom, in addition at the trim pump.
